The Local Folk

Malua was founded on a simple belief: the things we use every day should be made exceptionally well. Specialising in premium French flax linen, grown in France and crafted in Portugal, the brand champions European craftsmanship, considered consumption and the importance of quality rest.

With an established product and ambitions to expand internationally, Malua approached Good Manners to create a brand experience that could reflect the quality behind the product. Our challenge was to take a relatively understated bedding business and build something with greater presence, personality and purpose. A brand that could honour its heritage while confidently finding its place in the modern luxury market.

We began by looking beyond the product to understand what made Malua worth investing in. Through brand strategy and creative direction, we identified the opportunity to position Malua around the intersection of European textile heritage, natural luxury and intentional living.

Rather than following the predictable visual conventions of the bedding industry, we wanted to create something with a stronger point of view. Something that felt established without being old-fashioned, luxurious without being excessive, and contemporary without sacrificing timelessness.

The strategy centred on communicating the integrity of Malua's production process, the enduring quality of its materials and the belief that better rest begins with better choices. This became the foundation for an identity designed to feel both emotionally compelling and commercially confident.

Our creative direction explored the balance between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design. We developed a distinctive visual identity that draws on heritage-inspired typography, unexpected colour combinations and considered graphic details to give Malua a recognisable presence in a traditionally restrained category.

At the centre of the identity is a confident, statement-making wordmark, supported by a delicate brand mark inspired by the movement and tapering of a linen thread. Together, they establish a visual language that feels refined, tactile and intentionally crafted.

We extended the identity across packaging and print collateral, introducing thoughtful details such as a hotel-inspired Do Not Disturb thank-you card that doubles as a linen care guide. Every application was designed to make the experience of purchasing Malua feel as considered as the product itself.

The result is an identity that feels rooted in heritage but entirely relevant to today. Distinctive without being loud. Minimal without being forgettable.

With the brand established, we translated its new identity into a comprehensive Shopify ecommerce experience, designed to balance editorial storytelling with commercial functionality.

Our approach was to create a digital environment that felt as inviting as the bedding itself. Through considered typography, generous spacing, product education and photography direction, we built a website that gives customers the confidence to invest in quality while connecting them to the story behind every piece.

From communicating the benefits of stonewashed French flax linen to explaining Malua's European production process, every touchpoint was designed to make the brand's value tangible. We also considered the practicalities of international expansion, creating a digital foundation to support customers across multiple markets.

The result is more than a refreshed brand or website. It's a cohesive brand experience that gives Malua the clarity, confidence and consistency to grow beyond its origins.

A heritage-inspired identity for a new generation of conscious consumers. One that reminds us that luxury isn't always about having more, but choosing better.
